In early April, Steve and Nikki took me to Tsuwano to see the horseback archery festival. Tsuwano is a small mountain town that is famous for its paper making, among other things.

Every year, since the 12th century, Tsuwano has held a horseback archery festival. Originally, the samurais started the festival because they wanted to make sure their troops were trained properly for battle.

The Japanese word for the festival is "yabusmae."
